Milestones
Laguna Honda's timeline for transition to its three new buildings follows a milestone approach. Residents will move to their new homes upon the completion of five key safety milestones
- Testing of fire and life safety systems
- Certification by the Office of Statewide Hospital Planning and Development (OSHPD) that each of the three new buildings meet California's stringent requirements for hospital construction
- Installation of furniture, fixtures and equipment
- Staff training on the equipment and work-flows of the new environment
- Licensing of the new hospital by the California Department of Public Health
On a building-by-building basis, milestone completion is taking place first in the South Residence, then in the Pavilion, and finally in the North Residence.
OSHPD approval, installation of furniture and equipment, and systems testing is nearly complete in all three buildings.
Staff training is also underway. Following a national best practice known as Day in the Life training, 160 staff members serve as “superusers,” experts in the work routines and technical operation of the new buildings. The superusers provide their colleagues with orientation and training that simulates a resident’s typical day in the hospital’s new households.
